Jogira Sara Ra Ra Movie Review: Script Analysis
A significant era in Hindi cinema was dedicated to narratives that captured the essence of the Hrishikesh Mukherjee era and attempted to merge it with the commercially-driven modern masala format. While there were several misses and a handful of classic hits, this genre gained considerable popularity until David Dhawan and Govinda took it to an extreme (unfortunately, not in a positive way). Consequently, many of us grew weary, paving the way for a more intellectually-driven cinema favored by the elite.
Jogira Sara Ra Ra, penned by Ghalib Asad Arora, revives the charm of a comedy of errors set in the heartland of India, where two families are engrossed in their own games, oblivious to the world around them. The film is quite enjoyable, especially considering its ability to transport viewers into a realm that demands suspension of disbelief—an appetite we had lost in recent times. However, it owes much of its success to the exceptional performances by a talented cast.
That being said, it is hard to overlook the disjointed handling of the script, which introduces the heroine in a soft-focus sequence, only to abruptly shift gears into a dance number within the next five minutes. The film is marred by an underlying misogyny that is never properly addressed. These aspects were likely not the foremost considerations of the filmmakers, as is evident.
Moreover, the lack of continuity is jarring, with events unfolding without apparent cause. For instance, the sudden deep involvement of Neha Sharma in Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s life, leading to a heated confrontation about the latter’s family, feels contrived and disconnected. Additionally, the film becomes repetitious midway, which is unforgivable. As a result, the movie loses its momentum and the forcibly extended portions lack relevance.
However, credit must be given where it is due. The situational humor and the world portrayed by Sanjay Mishra are crafted with finesse and induce genuine hilarity. These moments stand out as the highlights of the film.
Jogira Sara Ra Ra Movie Review: Star Performance
Nawazuddin Siddiqui truly invests immense effort into crafting his characters, striving to make them authentic and relatable. This dedication is evident as he takes on underdeveloped roles and manages to make them somewhat likable. He possesses a depth beyond just being a source of comedy, yet his outbursts and moments of anger often go unnoticed and underappreciated. Furthermore, it would be preferable if Nawaz is not consistently made to dance in films.
Neha Sharma finally discovers a role that allows her to showcase her acting prowess. Although her performance becomes somewhat monotonous over time, it is undeniably a commendable portrayal that significantly contributes to the script.
Sanjay Mishra is an actor who consistently delivers outstanding performances and remains the highlight of this movie. Additionally, Rohit Chaudhary deserves recognition for his excellent portrayal of certain parts and his dedicated portrayal of the stereotypical “Hero ka dost.”
Credit must be given where it is due: the situational humor and the world created around Sanjay Mishra’s character are brilliantly crafted, resulting in hilarious moments that truly shine in the film.
Jogira Sara Ra Ra Movie Review: Direction, Music
Kushan Nandy and Nawazuddin Siddiqui join forces once again for their second collaboration. Nandy, known for his simplistic approach as a director, avoids unnecessary complications. His strength lies in crafting situational humor that resonates with audiences. However, it is worth noting that he occasionally resorts to lazy maneuvers in his storytelling.
The music and camera work are strictly average.
Jogira Sara Ra Ra Movie Review: The Last Word
Jogira Sara Ra Ra is a strictly average movie with some redemption that makes you want to give it a chance.
